Lately I’ve been talking to some fierce fitpreneurs and my business coaching clients who are wracked with self-doubt. It’s all too common; we don’t feel we have enough experience to really HELP anyone. Who is going to listen to us? We don’t have a degree in this, we’re still learning ourselves!

I feel you. Trust me. I struggled with this before taking the big step of launching my fitness biz. Sure, I’m passionate about health, fitness & wellness, but who am I kidding? There’s so much info out there, and so many other trainers and coaches with far more experience; I can’t do this.

Wrong. Big, fat, giant WRONG. Want to know why? There’s a huge misconception that you need to be an expert in your field to help others. You need degrees, certifications, years of experience and knowledge. And yes, those things are great! But they aren’t NECESSARY.

You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to know more than the person you’re training/coaching. Women look up to you; you are in a field that is rife with information, and half of it doesn’t make sense to the average Jane. There are a ton of times where I’ve been asked a question that I didn’t know the answer to – and instead of making something up or babbling like an idiot, I simply say, “Hm, I’m not totally sure. Let me do some research on that and we’ll discuss it at our next session.” Know how many times I’ve had a client narrow their eyes at me and run for the hills? Zero.

Your clients see your passion, they see and feel how genuine you are. That plays a big part of being considered an “expert” in this field. So don’t count your beautiful selves short. You all have incredible gifts to offer your clients, so don’t hesitate to share them. People are waiting for your guidance.
