When you're at the grocery store, you're perusing the isles, trying to make health-conscious decisions on the food you place in your basket. Options like "fat-free", "low-fat", "light", or "reduced fat" seem to be solid choices. I mean, how could they NOT be. They don't have fat in them!
It is very hard to think that food manufacturers are manipulating you. But they are...constantly. That is why it is so important for you to educate yourself on food labels and what exactly is behind the packaging.
FAT TASTES GOOD
That's why many people love fat-laden food so much!! So, logically, if you remove the fat from the product, it doesn't taste that good anymore. No one is going to but crappy tasting food. So what food manufacturers do is load the product up with sugar to make it taste better!
LESS FAT = MORE SUGAR, MORE FLOUR & MORE CRAP
It sucks, but health is not the food manufacturer/marketing team's main priority. They want to sell the product and they know how to appeal to the masses.
Here are some tips on how you can avoid deceptive marketing and weight gain
1. Limit the amount of processed foods you eat. If you ARE going to eat any, try to grab ones that have the least amount of ingredients listed on the back of the packaging.
2. Can't pronounce an ingredient on the package? That probably means your body won't recognize it either. Skip it.
3. Does it include more than 5 ingredients? Be careful.
4. Don't eat anything that includes chemicals. Just, no.
